Gidday!

Here’s the instructions for participating in fRETfEST.

There are 2 categories, over 18 and Under 18.  If you are 18+ simply come along to one of the shows and, if you like what you see, hand over a demo and we’ll have a listen to it.  That's the first step.

 

If you are Under 18, please ask your parent to Contact Us, or clcik on the 14-17yo link.  Please don't send myspace or emails or anything else. 

OVER 18s

Your demo must contain your own original acoustic songs without any overdubs or backing muso’s or effects.  It must be just you, alone, on your own, acoustic guitar and vocal.  All songs must have lyrics and all songs must be G-rated and recorded “live” in one take.  Write your name & number on it!

 

If your demo rocks, we’ll get back in touch with you and have a chat about how to arrange a private audition where you can do a workshop, before you get on stage!

The first step is to come to the gig and check it out.  We only work with people who actually come along to the gigs and say hi.  We want you to have a look at what we're doing, and bring a friend along, and enjoy the show.  At the end of the night, introduce yourself to the MC, and hand over your demo.  We'll get back in touch with you if we think your demo rocks!

 

* * PLEASE NOTE * *

 

fRETfEST is not a jam-nite.  You can’t just get up and play at fRETfEST gigs.  We work with you at the private audition (first) before you get on stage.  It usually takes about a month to go through the audition process.  We ask you to get involved and meet the other musicians first and become familiar with the format of fRETfEST, for yourself.  You can learn a lot just by being there!  We conduct workshops in Brisbane which are free to attend. But you have to be invited.  The first step is to come to a gig and hand over your demo.

 

If you need help making demo, just let us know.  You can record your own demo at home coz the quality of the recording is not nearly as important as the quality of your songs.  HINT HINT

 

Remember, the first step is to come in to a gig and say gidday; then hand over a demo.
